View full FDA label ↗Additive Formula 3 is a solution used to help preserve red blood cells collected during a specific blood donation process called apheresis. It works by providing nutrients and maintaining the right conditions for the red blood cells so they can be stored longer before being given to patients. The solution is added to the blood collection tubing after the donation is complete, and the exact amount used is determined by the blood collection device. It’s important to know that this solution should never be infused directly into the donor. Additionally, patients receiving blood products containing this solution should be monitored for signs of citrate toxicity, which can cause symptoms like tingling or low blood pressure.
