Aleve caplets are a medication used to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains, such as those from arthritis, backaches, menstrual cramps, headaches, toothaches, and even the common cold, while also helping to reduce fever. It works by blocking certain substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation. For adults and children aged 12 and older, the usual starting dose is one caplet every 8 to 12 hours as needed, but you can take two caplets for the first dose if needed; however, do not exceed two caplets in any 8- to 12-hour period or three caplets in a 24-hour period. A key warning is that it may cause severe stomach bleeding, especially if you are over 60, have a history of stomach ulcers, or take blood thinners. Additionally, if you are taking aspirin for heart attack or stroke prevention, be aware that Aleve may reduce the effectiveness of aspirin.
