Cleocin Phosphate is a medication used to treat serious infections caused by certain bacteria, including those that can affect the lungs, skin, and reproductive system. It works by stopping bacteria from making proteins they need to grow, which helps to eliminate the infection. The medication is given either through an injection into a muscle or through an intravenous (IV) line, with adults typically starting at a dose of 600 to 1200 mg per day, which can be increased to a maximum of 4800 mg for severe cases. It's important to know that this medication can cause a serious type of diarrhea called Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea, so if you experience diarrhea while taking it, you should contact your doctor immediately. Additionally, if you have a history of allergic reactions to clindamycin or lincomycin, you should not use this medication.
