Clopidogrel is a medication used to help prevent heart attacks and strokes in people with certain heart conditions, recent heart attacks, or strokes, as well as those with poor blood flow due to artery disease. It works by preventing blood cells called platelets from sticking together, which helps keep blood flowing smoothly. You typically take it as a tablet, starting with a single dose of 300 mg, followed by 75 mg once a day. It's important to know that clopidogrel should not be taken if you have active bleeding issues, like a bleeding ulcer. Additionally, certain medications, especially proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole, can affect how well clopidogrel works, so be sure to discuss any other medications you are taking with your doctor.
