It works by thinning the mucus and reducing the urge to cough, which can help you sleep better. Adults and children aged 12 and older can take 20 milliliters every 4 hours, but you should not take more than 6 doses in a day. It's important not to use this medication if you are currently taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) for depression or other conditions, or for two weeks after stopping such a medication. Always consult a doctor if you have a persistent cough or if you're pregnant or breastfeeding before using it.
