View full FDA label ↗Haldol Decanoate is a medication used to treat schizophrenia in adults who have been stable on a specific dose of an oral form of haloperidol. It works by blocking certain brain signals that can cause symptoms of schizophrenia. The medication is given as a deep injection into the muscle every four weeks, starting with a maximum dose of 100 mg; if a higher dose is needed, it may be given in two injections. It's important to know that Haldol Decanoate should not be used in individuals with severe central nervous system depression or those who are allergic to haloperidol. Additionally, taking Haldol Decanoate with ketoconazole, a strong antifungal medication, can increase the levels of haloperidol in the body, which may require careful monitoring.
