Naproxen caplets are used to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains from conditions like arthritis, backaches, menstrual cramps, headaches, toothaches, and the common cold, as well as to reduce fever. It works by blocking certain substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation. For adults and children aged 12 and older, the usual starting dose is 1 caplet every 8 to 12 hours, and you can take 2 caplets for the first dose if needed, but do not exceed 3 caplets in a 24-hour period. One important warning is that naproxen can increase the risk of severe stomach bleeding, especially if you are over 60, have had stomach ulcers, or are taking blood thinners. If you are taking aspirin for heart attack or stroke, be cautious, as naproxen may reduce the effectiveness of aspirin.
