View full FDA label ↗Oseltamivir is a medication used to treat and prevent influenza, commonly known as the flu, in patients aged 2 weeks and older. It works by stopping the flu virus from spreading in the body, helping to reduce the severity and duration of symptoms. The medication is taken as an oral suspension, with adults and adolescents typically starting at 75 mg twice a day for 5 days for treatment, or 75 mg once daily for at least 10 days for prevention. It is important to note that oseltamivir is not recommended for patients with severe kidney problems who are not on dialysis. Additionally, if you are taking probenecid, a medication that affects kidney function, it may increase the levels of oseltamivir in your body, but no dose adjustment is needed.
