Rosuvastatin is a medication used to lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of serious heart problems in adults and children over the age of 7 who have certain cholesterol conditions. It works by blocking a substance your body needs to make cholesterol, which helps lower the bad cholesterol levels in your blood. You take it as a tablet once a day, with a starting dose usually between 5 to 40 mg, depending on your needs, and the maximum dose is 40 mg. It's important to know that this medication should not be taken if you have severe liver problems. Additionally, if you're taking cyclosporine, your doctor will limit your dose of rosuvastatin to no more than 5 mg per day due to potential interactions.
