Saphris is a medication used to treat schizophrenia in adults and bipolar I disorder in both adults and children aged 10 to 17. It works by affecting certain chemicals in the brain that help manage mood and thought processes. The medication comes in the form of sublingual tablets, which means you place it under your tongue to let it dissolve; the usual starting dose is 5 mg taken twice daily, with a maximum dose of 10 mg twice daily. It's important to know that Saphris should not be taken if you have severe liver problems or a history of severe allergic reactions to it. Additionally, taking Saphris with paroxetine, an antidepressant, can significantly increase the levels of paroxetine in your body, so be sure to discuss any other medications you are taking with your doctor.
