It works by stopping the growth of the yeast that causes the infection. For adults and children 12 years and older, it is taken as one suppository inserted into the vagina at bedtime for three nights, along with a cream applied to the itchy skin outside the vagina twice daily for up to seven days. It's important to know that you should not use this medication if you have never had a vaginal yeast infection diagnosed by a doctor. Additionally, if you are taking the blood thinner warfarin, you should check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it, as it may increase the risk of bleeding or bruising.
