View full FDA label ↗Trijardy XR is a medication used to help adults with type 2 diabetes manage their blood sugar levels, and it can also reduce the risk of heart-related issues for those with existing heart disease. It combines three active ingredients that work together: one helps your kidneys remove excess sugar through urine, another boosts insulin production when needed, and the third improves how your body uses sugar. You take it as a single tablet once a day with a meal, starting with a dose that includes 10 mg of empagliflozin, 5 mg of linagliptin, and 1,000 mg of metformin, and it can go up to a maximum of 25 mg, 5 mg, and 2,000 mg, respectively. It's important to know that Trijardy XR should not be used if you have severe kidney problems, as it can worsen your condition. Additionally, if you take insulin or other medications that lower blood sugar, you may need to be careful, as using them together can increase the risk of low blood sugar.
