Victoza is a medication used to help manage blood sugar levels in people aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes, and it can also lower the risk of serious heart problems in adults with diabetes and heart disease. It works by helping your body release insulin when blood sugar is high and slowing down how quickly food leaves your stomach, which helps control blood sugar levels. You take it as an injection under the skin once a day, starting with a dose of 0.6 mg for the first week, then increasing to 1.2 mg, and if needed, to a maximum of 1.8 mg after another week. It's important to know that Victoza should not be used if you have a personal or family history of certain thyroid cancers. Additionally, if you are taking insulin, you should inject Victoza separately and not mix them together.
