View full FDA label ↗Benadryl is a medication that temporarily relieves symptoms caused by hay fever or other upper respiratory allergies, such as a runny nose, sneezing, and itchy, watery eyes. It works by blocking certain natural substances in the body that cause these allergy symptoms. You can take it every 4 to 6 hours, but do not exceed 6 doses in a 24-hour period; for children aged 6 to 11 years, the starting dose is between 5 mL and 10 mL. It's important not to use this medication to make a child sleepy or with any other products that contain diphenhydramine. Additionally, if a child is taking sedatives or tranquilizers, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist before using Benadryl.

Dosage
