View full FDA label ↗Synjardy is a medication used to help control blood sugar levels in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes. It combines two ingredients: empagliflozin, which helps the body get rid of excess sugar through urine, and metformin, which lowers sugar production in the liver and improves how the body uses insulin. You take it by mouth, with Synjardy typically twice a day and a starting dose of 10 mg of empagliflozin and 1,000 mg of metformin, with a maximum of 25 mg and 2,000 mg respectively. It's important to know that Synjardy should not be used if you have severe kidney problems. Additionally, if you're taking insulin or certain other diabetes medications, you may be at a higher risk for low blood sugar while using this medication.
