Coltalin is a medication that helps temporarily relieve symptoms caused by colds, the flu, or hay fever, such as minor aches and pains, sore throat, headaches, runny nose, and sneezing. It works by reducing fever and promoting drainage in the nasal passages. For adults and children aged 12 and older, the starting dose is 2 tablets every 4 hours, but you should not take more than 6 doses (or 12 tablets) in a 24-hour period. Children aged 6 to under 12 should take 1 tablet every 4 hours, not exceeding 5 doses (or 5 tablets) in a day. A key warning is that taking more than the recommended amount can lead to severe liver damage, especially if you consume alcohol or are using other medications that contain acetaminophen.
